Simple Explanation of Energy Healing

Copyright © 2000 Kevin Farrow

The usually agreed basis of what is termed 'energetic' healing is the proposition that 'energetic forces' affect the structure of matter. While few would argue against this, it doesn't help us to develop a clear understanding of energetic healing. To begin to grasp the principles involved, we must first bear in mind the idea of a general field of vibration, clearly expressed by Einstein's dictum;

'We may therefore regard matter as being constituted by the regions of space in which the field is extremely intense...There is no place in this new kind of physics for the field and matter, for the field is the only reality'.

With this understanding we can restate the original proposition as; The structure of intense fields can be affected by the frequency of a less intense field. In a practical way, we can then start with a simple expression - frequency affects structure - with the proviso that we accept that structure itself is a frequency of a denser nature.

Principle #1

Frequency affects structure.

There are numerous examples of frequency affecting structure. Armies marching in step over bridges, their rhythmic frequency causing interacting wave vibrations, which become stronger and stronger and destroy the bridge is a well-known one. The incredible photographs of crystalline water by Japanese researcher Masuro Emoto showing the obvious effects of such frequencies as prayer and pollution on the structure of simple(?) water molecules is another. In one series of photographs from Fujiwara Dam, in Emoto's book 'The Message from Water' the crystalline water molecules show as disorganised structures in an untouched sample and as a highly organised structure after prayer. These images can be viewed at http://www.wellnessgoods.com/art_wat_messages.html

This effect is an important principle in healing.

As seen from the example of the armies marching across bridges (note: they now march out of step) the way that frequency affects structure can be predicted. In the case of bridges, if the marching rhythm matches the correct harmonic frequency, the bridge will fall down. Homeopathic cures also show how specific frequencies affecting a structure can be predicted. The 'proving' of homeopathic remedies involves the testing of substances on healthy subjects to come up with a common list of symptoms that are similar to those displayed in particular illnesses. The fact that they do this far more regularly than chance proves that the frequency of a homeopathic remedy can affect a structure (subject) with a predictable result to some degree. This ability to predict outcomes is due to the relationship between frequency and structure obeying some fundamental laws.

The 1st law

The way structure is affected by frequency is dependent upon the coherence of the frequency.

Non-coherent frequencies affect structure in non-coherent and non-predictable ways. Non-coherent frequencies may be thought of as frequencies that are not part of a natural progression. There are many 'natural progressions, the Fibonacci series in mathematics and the rhythms of the tides for instance. There are examples of man made natural progressions. Lawrence Blair (Blair, L. Rhythms of Vision. Paladin 1976 p 137) notes that the ratios of the swelling and narrowing of growing plant stems reflect the same ratios as the flutings on the columns of Gothic cathedrals such as Chartres.

The musical scale is also an example of a coherent series. Pythagoras developed the western musical scale by the process of determining the perfect harmonic relationships of a plucked string. If you stretch a string and pluck it, you get a note we'll call C. If you lightly touch the string approx 2/3 of the way along its length and pluck it, you will get what is termed the perfect fifth of that note, which is G. Guitarists routinely do this when they are tuning their strings. This is a natural progression. If you keep doing this to the note you arrive back at the starting note. (For a more detailed explanation see 'Chakras and the Musical Scale'. Kevin Farrow www.harmonics.com.au under articles) Major chords are built from the tonic (initial note) and the perfect fifth and the third which is interestingly the fifth sequential note of the progression. A chord is a coherent frequency built from a natural progression.

The combination of some series of notes produces what is termed a dis-chord. Dis-chords are constructed from notes that aren't part of a natural progression and 'jangle' our sense of harmony. A dis-chord is an example of non-coherent frequency. Dis-chords can also be chords played 'at the wrong time' in a musical progression. Both dis-chords are examples of non-coherent frequencies, one from its basic construction of notes and the other from its placement in the progression or series.

Matsuo Emoto's photo's of 'polluted lakes' are also examples of non-coherent frequencies. They don't show an effect that can be calculated. However, it is not the repeatability of the process that demonstrates coherence, but the fact that the frequency series corresponds with natural progressions and therefore produces a result that demonstrates 'higher' organisation. It is apparent from Emoto's photographs of water that has been subjected to music, that the more complex the music, the more highly organised the resulting crystalline structure. The structure resulting from Bach's 'Air for the G String' is shown as more complex than a simple folk melody, although both show beauty and clarity. These examples demonstrate the second law.

2nd Law

Coherent frequencies produce an effect of organisation.

Other examples of this 'organisation' are the 'tonographs' of Hans Jenny. Jenny's work showed that the shape of some liturgical languages is determined by their sound. He demonstrated using Hebrew and other ancient languages, that the vocalisation of the alphabet letters caused the creation of the matching shape of that alphabet letter. He did this by covering metal discs with light layers of sand, pollens and other materials, and then amplifying sounds onto the metal discs. Part of Jenny's work including some incredible photographs, was published by UNESCO in the Courier in December 1969. There is also a book by Jenny entitled Cymatics which is still available and his short films showing the moving interaction of structure to sound are available through Hans Jenny sites on the world wide web.

A more recent example of the effect of coherent frequencies is the research of Dr Dean Ornish into the healing power of love for patients suffering heart disease. Ornish's work has been published in many prestigious medical journals including 'The Lancet' and 'The Journal of the American Medical Association'. Ornish was able to prove that surrounding patients with their loved ones aided in healing heart conditions previously considered untreatable. The frequency of love affected the physical structure of the heart in a positive coherent manner. These examples also demonstrate the third law.

3rd Law

Predictable results can be demonstrated from the effect of coherent frequencies on structure.

From the above, we see that frequency affects structure and that it is possible to predict the effect of a coherent frequency on a particular structure. Which leads us to the question.

How does the frequency affect the structure?

It is often considered that the electric bio-energy or Qi is involved in healing and that the 'healer' transmits the energy somehow into the subject. Like filling a bucket with water. Some Qi Gong practitioners channel their energy in this manner, but is this really what does the healing? Some martial arts practitioners have learnt to channel energy to harm opponents. The difference is not so much in the technique of sending energy as in the intent. Here is a crucial point.

4th Law

a) The intent of the frequency helps determine the effect on the structure.

As an example of intent, the Spindrift Foundation in the United States has been running a simple experiment proving the power of prayer for many years. For a small fee they supply 2 boxes and some soil and wheat, half of which is placed in one box and half in another. Both are watered and only one is prayed for. The Spindrift experiments have proved beyond reasonable doubt that the wheat in the box that is prayed for grows faster and stronger than the control. This works in accordance with Rudolf Steiner's dictum that 'rhythm is the carrier of life.' The assumption that prayer has a rhythm or a coherent frequency we have already addressed above in the reference to Dean Ornish's work.

However, there is another part to this. The particular 'direction' of the frequency also has an effect on the structure. An easy and familiar example is the tonifying and sedating technique used in reflexology, shiatsu and other oriental body therapies. Clockwise pressure is tonifying and anticlockwise is sedating. This demonstrates the second part of the 4th Law. 4th Law

b) The direction of the frequency helps determine the effect on the structure.

The third part of this law is as follows.

4th Law

c) The shape of the frequency helps determine the effect on the structure.

This is easily shown by using radiance and entrainment techniques from different healing modalities. I do this for my students to demonstrate how easy it is for most people to differentiate between these techniques. Using the same intent and the same direction, I send them energy using Qi Gong, then Reiki, then Shamanic, then Harmonics techniques. The feeling is very different with each technique. Just using different techniques of Reiki or Qi Gong will also demonstrate this effectively.

So, for our simple explanation of energetic healing, we have the following;

Principle #1
Frequency affects structure.

1st law
The way structure is affected by frequency is dependent upon the coherence of the frequency.

2nd Law
Coherent frequencies produce an effect of organisation.

3rd Law
Predictable results can be demonstrated from the effect of coherent frequencies on structure.

4th Law (The Triple Law)
a/ The intent of the frequency helps determine the effect on the structure.
b/ The direction of the frequency helps determine the effect on the structure.
c/ The shape of the frequency helps determine the effect on the structure.

These are the ground rules for developing an understanding of energetic healing.
